Web Spaces…

Hi everyone,

What do you think of the blog so far?

I’m trying to include a good mixture of articles, thoughts, information, statistics and stories…

If you have any questions or suggestions for improvement then pleeeaaaazzze leave a comment or e-mail me, I’d be thrilled to hear from you!

This is where else you can find me on-line (oh yes, there’s more)…

Bebo (a youth chat community)

The Bebo site is light-hearted and very up-beat, with funny comments and lots of other silly nonsense! The main purpose is to provide on-line links so that younger people can access other support sites. It has more “members” than the other communities.

My Space (a slightly more adult version of Bebo)

…Only slightly!

This site is more personal and features photographs of Graham and me. Blog entries focus on issues of grief and bereavement.

Face Book (The most grown-up one)!

I don’t blog there, but I check-in regularly and update the page weekly. Seriously, you would not believe the number of pro-ana sites on face book! I don’t want to advertise them… suffice to say I thought we should have a profile there too!

Finally, if you have personal experience or ideas and would like to write something for the blog, do let me know!

Wishing you all a good week ~

Speak soon!

grief

January 26, 2008

The Graham Menzies Foundation was established in memory of Graham Clifford Menzies who died suddenly on 24th January 2007.
Graham was my partner, my best friend, my soulmate.

I hope that the “grief” posts in this blog will provide practical support and helpful links for those who have lost someone they love deeply. The diary entries are more personal and cathartic…

Feel free to contact me here and ask questions if you wish.

I LOVE you Graham!

eating disorders in wales

January 18, 2008
wenna-profile-pic.jpg

business-card-imagejpg.jpgHi, i’m Rowenna Menzies. Welcome to the Graham Menzies Foundation blog!

We are a small charity aiming to improve the treatment and support services available for people in Wales who suffer from an eating disorder.

Beat estimate that there are 58,000 people currently suffering in Wales, and that 20% will die (the highest fatality rate of any mental illness). Available support is patchy and under-developed, with no services at all in many parts of the country.

We are currently constructing a comprehensive data base of all support facilities – this will be available to everybody via our web site… I am also a member of the Welsh Assembly’s “Cross Party Eating Disorder Group” chaired by Bethan Jenkins AM. Our long term plans include the establishment of the first specialist Welsh residential unit for adults, and we are exploring a range of funding options to that end.

I am thrilled to have received so much support from the press, assembly members and from other voluntary sector organisations. Many thanks to all who have helped us get this far!

I hope that you enjoy this blog. It is updated on a daily basis and progress reports are published on the last day of every month for a quick overview – so book mark me!

I will be writing at a broad range of levels… please use the links at the right hand side of this page to find the subjects that most interest you. There are personal stories, statistics that may be helpful for funding applications, thoughtful discussions about related areas (feminism, self-image etc), up-dates on what’s happening with eating disorders in Wales and links and suggestions for further reading.

If you have any thoughts, ideas, questions or responses then please leave a comment or e-mail me. I will always be pleased to hear from you!

Kind regards,

Rowenna
